I grew up on the iron range and went to high school in Virginia, MN. I was active in many sports. I attended Mankato State University to study athletic training. While I was studying athletic training, I started to learn more about the body and I realized how important your spine and nervous system are. One of my rotations was in an advanced back care clinic. We used some of the most advanced rehab and therapeutic techniques. One day while we were working with a really difficult patient, the head of the clinic told me “All these machines are good but if you want to see what really works follow me.” He took the patient into the back room and adjusted them. The patient had improved more with one adjustment then in two weeks of rehab. I was amazed. Why hadn’t anyone told me about this before?

I decided I was going to learn every thing I could about chiropractic.  I attended chiropractic college at Northwestern Chiropractic College in Bloomington, MN.   I read every book, listened to every tape, and attended every seminar I could find.  Dr. Alex was in my class, but we really got to know each other through our extra education at weekend and evening seminars.   The more I learned the more I realized how amazing chiropractic is.  Your brain tells the rest of your body how to work.  It sends the signals down the spinal cord and out the nerves.  If the spine is out of alignment it changes how these nerves work and your body can’t function the way that it is supposed to.  In 2002, I graduated in the top 10% of my class and passed the national and state boards, and became licensed.  After graduating, I spent another year completing pediatric certification through the ICPA.

When I first started getting adjusted I thought I was completely healthy and that I was just getting adjusted for wellness.  I thought it was normal to be sick on a regular basis and to have stomach and allergy problems.  I had enjoyed weight lifting but was unable to bench press because of a problem in my shoulder.  I started getting adjusted and my shoulder healed right away, I was finally able to bench again.  After about a year I noticed my allergies also disappeared.  I also noticed that I rarely get sick and when I do it doesn’t last long.  I can’t even imagine what my body would be like if I hadn’t been adjusted.

My name is Dr. Alex Sheppard and I am one of the founding chiropractors of Oasis Chiropractic and Wellness Center.  One of our goals is to be a natural healthcare clinic where people can reach new levels of health and wellness.  Our clinic has been open for 18 years and we provide chiropractic care, active rehab, weight loss, and body contouring light therapy, along with our newest service, Nutrition Response Testing.

I got started with chiropractic care during my middle school years.  I sustained a back injury playing basketball and my parents immediately took me to a chiropractor.  With chiropractic care, my back felt a lot better and I found I was having fewer headaches.  Win, win!!

Over the last 18 years I have had the privilege of helping thousands of people feel better and improve their overall level of health.  Pain reduction through chiropractic is very important and with our additional services we have been able to help our patients reach an even higher level of health.

Our newest service, Nutrition Response Testing has changed my life and the lives of my wife and children.  For years my wife was dealing with headaches and neck pain so I would adjust her neck and back several times per week.  The adjustments helped temporarily but once she was able to get started on a program from Nutrition Response Testing she felt a lot better, slept better and was able to start exercising again.  In my case, I find myself rarely getting sick, I have more energy and I sleep great!!

My family and I have lived in Cottage Grove for 14 years.  My wife and I have two children and we enjoy traveling and spending time outdoors.
